If you are like me, I didn’t even know that the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center and Aquatic Center even existed! It’s located in the Old Fourth Ward (110 Hilliard St SE, Atlanta, GA 30312) and is open to the public (with a membership that is very reasonable). This is a brand new building that opened in 2017. If you are into swimming, exercising, playing basketball, rock-wall climbing, or needing an event space, this recreational center has it! And it’s SUPER nice.
Don’t let the fall and winter months prevent you from getting your swim on. There is a 25-yard lap pool and as a mother of a toddler, I love the fact that there is a zero-entry section of the pool where my little one can stand on her own and make a splash. There is good-sized parking lot outside of the building and is FREE to park in. If you prefer to walk or jog, there is an indoor walking/jogging trail so you never have to freeze in the winter time and dodge the heat in the summertime. If you haven’t been to the MLK Recreation Center yet, do yourself a favor and check it out!
