3 Reasons to Live in Poncey-Highland

When researching Atlanta neighborhoods, one area that often times gets overlooked or combined in with its neighbors is Poncey-Highland.  Poncey-Highland is a small Intown Atlanta neighborhood squeezed in between Virginia Highland and Inman Park.  I’ve listed 3 Reasons that you might want to live in Poncey-Highland.

1) Walkability:

Poncey-Highland is super walkable.  Within the Poncey-Highland area is its own set of restaurants and coffee shops (Sweet Auburn BBQ, San Francisco Coffee, Java Vino, La Fonda, & Manuel’s Tavern, just to name a few).  The neighborhood also intersects with both the Freedom Parkway Trail and the Beltline which are both great for leisurely walks, jogs, or bike rides.

2) Location:

The location of Poncey-Highland is excellent.  You can easily walk to Virginia Highland, Inman Park, or O4W/Ponce City Market without working up too much of a sweat.  Plus, Poncey-Highland is home to a Publix grocery store, which is always super convenient (in my opinion) to have a grocery store nearby.  If you are in need of a tasty treat from King of Pops, look no further than the corner of North Ave & North Highland Ave NE – there is typically a stand at the corner of the Buddy’s gas station (North Ave & N. Highland Ave).

3) Bungalows and Lofts:

If you are a fan of old bungalows or trendy lofts, Poncey-Highland might be for you.  The bungalows in the area are typically in the 1,600-2,500 sq ft range and the average sales price in the past year has been around $689K.  This is substantially a better price than what you could get in Virginia Highland or Inman Park.  Another home style that many don’t think about in Poncey-Highland are lofts.  Many probably have seen lofts for listed in this area but assumed they were part of Old Fourth Ward.  However, based on neighborhood boundary lines, some of these actually are on the Poncey-Highland side.  Examples of loft complexes include Highland School Lofts (yep – an old school building turned into a loft complex), Freedom Lofts, Copenhill Lofts, and NuGrape Lofts.  Currently, a 1 bedroom loft is averaging around $275K and a 2 bedroom loft averages around $325K.
